Rule #187 - - Permission To Use Furniture

Master’s Philosophy — Permission To Use Furniture

Access to furniture is a privilege that a well-behaved House Boy enjoys on a regular basis. But it is still a privilege, not a right. Permission To Use Furniture must be asked for on a daily basis. Any use of furniture by a House Boy who has not asked for and been granted permission — except to clean or perform other required chores or maintenance — is a violation of protocol and may bring discipline. For the purpose of this rule the term ‘furniture’ includes all couches, chairs, tables, beds, recliners, love seats, portable and temporary seating, footrests and foot stools, legged serving trays, gaming chairs, desks, and chests of drawers. It does not include kitchen and bathroom fixtures like shower stalls, bathtubs, sinks, toilets (except as noted below), built-in cabinetry, and major appliances like ovens and dishwashers.

Protocol calls for the House Boy to verbally request Permission To Use Furniture daily. He is not permitted to ask while Master is asleep, on the telephone, in the bathroom, in the swimming pool or jacuzzi, or in any room behind closed doors. Once granted, permission remains in effect throughout the calendar day. Extended access for Permission To Use Furniture between midnight and the following sunrise will be considered upon request, as long as it is asked for after sunset and prior to the midnight hour. House Boys are cautioned that even though Permission To Use Furniture is routinely granted, that failure to remember to ask for permission each morning (or failure to realize that permission has automatically expired) is not an excuse to avoid discipline for violation of protocol.

In the example photo, a House Boy completes his weekly duty of Vacuuming (Rule #86) as Master takes his morning shower. The House Boy is entitled to take a short a break before his next scheduled chore — but he hasn’t asked for Permission To Use Furniture — so he lays on the bedroom floor and rests his eyes waiting for Master to emerge from the bathroom. While this isn’t the best use of the House Boy’s time — because he could always begin another duty or chore — it technically isn’t a violation, and it does serve as a way to help the House Boy to remember to ask for the required permission.  It’s easy to get sidetracked and forget to ask while doing another chore, and then be called out for a violation and an embarrassing spanking. Master has a very good memory about whether Permission To Use Furniture has been granted and knowledgable guests will sometimes watch out for violations as well, especially as the bewitching hour of midnight approaches during late night visits or hosted events.

Toilet seats and lids are considered furniture for the purpose of this rule, but the commode itself is a fixture and may be used or sat upon by the House Boy at any time. It is not appropriate for a House Boy to waste paper or use towels or other items to avoid sitting on a toilet fixture that may be cold or otherwise uncomfortable. Permission To Use Furniture extends to any property that Master is leasing or renting, including travel to hotels and resorts and Master’s other properties. Master has the right to whitelist or blacklist permission to use any item of furniture at any time, but a Temporary Master who is supervising a House Boy may not whitelist any furniture that Master has not already granted permission to use.

A workstation and chair which a House Boy uses at home for employment or classwork is exempt from this rule and may be used when needed for those purposes. A House Boy without Permission To Use Furniture who uses another House Boy who has been Objectified As Furniture is in violation of this rule and will be punished accordingly.
